Overview

Sambusa House, tucked away on Greenfield Road in Detroit, is a vibrant slice of Yemen right in the heart of the city. This Yemeni restaurant has quickly earned a reputation for delivering fresh, authentic dishes that honor traditional flavors without compromising on quality. The hallmark of their menu is, without question, the sambusa—crispy, golden pastries with a diverse range of fillings. From savory meats like beef, chicken, and lamb to vegetarian options such as lentils, potato, and various cheeses, and even sweet surprises like pistachio and date, their sambusas offer something for every palate.

The culinary craftsmanship at Sambusa House extends beyond their famed pastries. Breakfast plates like Sak Shooka and Chicken Galba shine with rich, aromatic spices and comforting accompaniments such as kubuz tawa bread. Signature items like the mendi wraps, featuring tender lamb or chicken wrapped in flaky flatbread, highlight the chef’s skill in blending textures and flavors seamlessly.

The space itself is modest, best suited for takeaway or a quick sit-down, making it an ideal spot for those seeking genuine Yemeni cuisine without pretense. Its intimate setting is counterbalanced by the warmth of the staff, who provide welcoming hospitality and engage with patrons in a way that feels personal and genuine. Whether stopping by after a workday or visiting during Ramadan to break the fast, Sambusa House caters well to locals and food enthusiasts craving an honest taste of Yemeni tradition.

Drinks like their freshly squeezed lemonade infused with mint or ginger complement the food beautifully, offering refreshing balance to the savory offerings. The attention to detail, from handmade dough and wraps to the thoughtfully prepared all-day breakfast items, illustrates a dedication to authenticity and freshness that resonates in every bite.

For those exploring Detroit’s culinary landscape, Sambusa House stands out as a must-visit for lovers of Middle Eastern and Yemeni cuisine. Sambusa House is a hidden gem! Their handmade sambusas are packed with flavor, so many options from beef and chicken to lentil and even sweet pistachio. Everything is made fresh in-house, including the wraps and dough. The mendi sandwich and ful for breakfast are must-tries. Great spot for authentic Yemeni takeout!

Sambusa House is the best spot for sambusa during Ramadan! They offer a wide variety of sambusa flavors, and we decided to try the chicken, beef, and pistachio. We weren’t sure about the pistachio at first, but it turned out to be absolutely delicious. The customer service was outstanding—warm and welcoming. They even offered us a free sample of their Dubai chocolate sambusa, which was a delightful surprise. Though they just opened, they are already making a great impression with their quality and hospitality. Highly recommended!

I tried the mendi wrap the first time there with lamb and let me tell you it was phenomenal! Huge, delicious and lots of tender succulent lamb. Do yourself a favor and try it! The second time I got the ful. It was pretty good, very flavorful, but I think that flat bread is the star of the show. Flaky, chewy, and delicious. The young men working there are great servers and they have a good sense of humor (see their videos), makes ya feel comfortable so ya wanna come back and eat there again. Just added pics of the chicken 65 wrap... Looks delicious! Wow! It was fresh and delicious just like everything else I've eaten here.

I recently visited Sambusa House Restaurant and had an amazing experience! I ordered the meat sambusa and the meat gallaba, and both dishes were absolutely delicious. The sambusa was crispy, flavorful, and packed with perfectly seasoned meat. The meat gallaba was tender, savory, and cooked to perfection — truly a standout dish. The food was fresh, the flavors were authentic, and the overall experience was excellent. I highly recommend Sambusa House to anyone looking for great food and great service! I’ll definitely be coming back.
